Apple released today the third quarter of the 2025 fiscal year (natural year Q2), which exceeded analysts’ expectations on key indicators such as revenue collection, each share (EPS) and iPhone income. At a teleconference with analysts, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, announced that, since the first generation of iPhone in 2007, the apples had cumulatively delivered 3 billion iPhone.
The first billion: it took about nine years to reach it in July 2016. At that time, Cook Singi Phone was “one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history”.
The second billion: Apple did not publicly announce a specific time frame, but analysts generally agreed that this milestone occurred around September 2021.
The third billion: achieved in less than four years (from September 2021), shows that the iPhone growth is still strong.
In his prepared statement, Cook mentioned calmly: “We have also recently marked an important milestone. Since its launch in 2007, we have delivered 3 billion iPhone.”
This figure is of particular concern because apples have ceased to publish quarterly deliveries of hardware equipment by product category since November 2018. Luca Maestri, then Chief Finance Officer of Apple, explained at the time that “a quarterly sales volume (number of stations) did not represent the fundamentals of the business”. Apples instead place greater emphasis on service income and overall financial health.
As a result, Cook took the initiative to mention that cumulative deliveries exceeded 3 billion, an official confirmation of iPhone-specific sales rare in recent years. This is not only a strong demonstration of the sustainability of the iPhone landmark product, but also a signal of its continued impact as the core business pillar of Apple.
